PPIM WANTS BOYCOTT OF FRENCH PRODUCTS OVER MACRON’S REMARKS – THE MOLE – 26/10/2020
27 Oct 2020

KUALA LUMPUR – October 26, 2020: The Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM) has called for a boycott of French products in response to a recent negative comment on Islam by the country’s president Emmanuel Macron.

Macron had early this month described Islam as a religion in crisis and pledged to fight “Islamist separatism”, which he said was threatening to take control of some Muslim communities in France.

His comment was in addition to his backing of satirical outlets publishing caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.

In calling for the boycott, PPIM chief Datuk Nadzim Johan said a country must learn to respect others before demanding respect, something that he believes France should learn.

“The French must learn how to respect people, learn and apply, so as to sow harmony among nations and its people.

“For its president (Macron) recent comment on Islam, we must gather their attention by boycotting their products and I urge all Malaysians to do the same.

“We may be small like ants to their eyes, but even ants can prove fatal to humans given the right circumstances,” said Nadzim.

He also applauded other countries which decided to ban French products from the shelves and hoped that France will get the message that Muslims worldwide is rejecting Islamophobia.

Hashtags such as the #BoycottFrenchProducts in English and the Arabic as well as #ExceptGodsMessenger are currently trending across countries such as Kuwait, Qatar, Palestine, Egypt, Algeria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

In Kuwait, the chairman and members of the board of directors of the Al-Naeem Cooperative Society decided to boycott all French products and to remove them from supermarket shelves.
