Too Much Vice Among Muslim Youths, High Time For RUU355, Says PPIM

KUALA LUMPUR: The time has come to make Pas’ Private Member’s Bill to empower the Syariah Courts a reality because more Muslim teenagers are getting involved in ‘maksiat’ (vice), said Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia (PPIM) activist Yusuf Azmi.

In his speech at today’s RUU355 gathering, Yusuf called on Malaysians to show their support for the Act and urged them to “open their eyes” to the immorality happening around them.

“Lately, we have been hearing stories of our teenagers getting involved in pre-marital sex, going to night clubs and gambling dens. Some even throw their newborn babies in schools toilets. “I’m sure we don’t want our sons and daughters to end up like that.

Due to this reason, PPIM pledges its full support for the implementation of the RUU355. “However, please do not politicise this matter as it has nothing to do with politics.

This is about our country and our people,” he said. Pas is currently seeking to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 to empower the Syariah Courts.

First reading of the bill was done by its president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang during the last session of Dewan Rakyat last year.

The bill seeks to amend the Act, also known as Act 355, to empower Islamic courts to enforce punishment, except for the death penalty, provided in Syariah laws for Islamic offences listed under state jurisdiction in the Federal Constitution.
